Learning and Training Learning

IBM Cognos BI

This training cycle is focused on developing practical skills in working with IBM Cognos BI components. Issues of designing the meta-layer on the basis of relational and multidimensional data structures, the creation of reports of presentational quality, the reports functionality expansion and management, the creation of ad hoc reports will be considered during the training course.

About the Training Course

This training course includes the following modules:
  • General Architecture and interaction of Cognos BI components;
  • Cognos BI Report Studio: Basic;
  • Cognos BI Report Studio: Advanced;
  • Cognos BI Query Studio: Ad hoc Report Creation
  • Cognos BI Framework Manager: Meta Data Model Design.
During the one-day “Cognos BI Overall Architecture and Component Interaction”, the participants will learn about elements of IBM Cognos BI and its underlying architecture.

The three-day “Cognos BI Report Studio: Basic” module is dedicated to reviewing the key techniques for the development of reports using relational data models, methods of expanding and customizing the functionality of reports, and the management of reports.

The two-day “Cognos BI Report Studio: Advanced” module is dedicated to additional report development techniques, methods of distribution of reports to users, the use of HTML in reports.

The one-day “Cognos BI Query Studio: Ad hoc Report Creation” module is designed for business users who want to know how to create, modify and organize ad hoc reports. This course covers the use of various report functionalities, the graphic presentation of data, and the creation of uniform reports using templates. The course also covers basic administration tasks, such as launching reports according to a time schedule, and generation of reports in various formats (e.g., HTML, PDF, Excel).

The five-day “Cognos BI Framework Manager: Meta Data Model Design” provides key notions and creates a broader picture of meta data modelling concepts, and the technical aspects of the development of meta data models for reports, and the analysis of results using Framework Manager. Participants will pass through all the stages of the modelling process from the initial project set-up to the publication of meta data on a web server to make it possible for end users to easily create reports and analyze data.
